Sicilia Jazz Festival

The Program

Stars like Anastacia, Manuel Agnelli, Al McKay’s Earth, Wind & Fire Experience, The Manhattan Transfer, Gregory Porter and many others, unpublished productions and international premieres, world-famous artists and young musicians from conservatories, for a lineup with over 30 unmissable concerts.

The Sicilia Jazz Festival 2023 will take place from June 23 to July 2 in the most exclusive locations of the city of Palermo: 10 days dedicated to the unmistakable jazz sound, between the Teatro di Verdura, the prestigious venue that will host the ten headliners accompanied by the OJS, the Real Teatro Santa Cecilia, the historical headquarters of the Fondazione The Brass Group, Santa Maria dello Spasimo, an evocative open-air church, and also the Palazzo Steri and Butera.

The Sicilia Jazz Festival is promoted by the Sicilian Region through the Department of Tourism, Sports, and Entertainment. The artistic and technical consultancy is entrusted to the Fondazione The Brass Group. The initiative is the result of collaboration between the Municipality of Palermo and the music conservatories throughout the regional territory and aims to involve regional educational institutions, local musicians and craftsmen.

Sicilia Jazz, the world’s only festival entirely dedicated to orchestral productions, will feature the Sicilian Jazz Orchestra. For the third consecutive year, following the success of the previous two editions, music will once again take center stage in the magnificent setting of the Sicilian capital: a total of over 30 concerts and numerous orchestral productions are planned, featuring world premieres and specially commissioned unpublished works, exclusive performances with internationally renowned soloists, and the excellence of Sicilian conservatories with many young musicians. It will be an opportunity for a healthy and creative mix of sounds and experiences among famous artists, musicians from different parts of the world, masters, and young talents.

The program proposed for the third edition is a succession of unique and unrepeatable evenings, with performances by internationally renowned stars masterfully accompanied by the Sicilian Jazz Orchestra.

Diane Schuur will inaugurate the festival on July 24th at the Teatro di Verdura.
The lineup also includes 19 performances by the jazz departments of the five Sicilian conservatories: “Alessandro Scarlatti” in Palermo, “Arcangelo Corelli” in Messina, “Arturo Toscanini” in Ribera, “Vincenzo Bellini” in Catania, and “Antonio Scontrino” in Trapani.

A major novelty of the 2023 edition is “Jazz On Tour”, a program of 5 concerts held in 5 Sicilian municipalities: Partinico, Erice, Sciacca, Messina, and Terrasini will host great artists including Daria Biancardi, Island Tales Group, and many other performances.

In addition to the musical moments, there will be book presentations and video representations focusing on the importance of jazz music as a tool for artistic and territorial expression.
